Leen desperately wants to leave his native village, but can't push himself to actually go. So all that is left is working, drinking beer with his friends, ánd riding his chopper.'

Dutch film Spetters was released in 1980, directed by Paul Verhoeven. The movie, which is violent and sexually graphic, is a high-speed coming of age story, centers on three young men dreaming of an escape from their provincial surroundings and are dreaming of a motorcross career. The movie led to many protests in Holland about the caricatural manner in which Verhoeven portrayed gays, Christians, the police, and the press, but was a big commercial succes.
