In the Netherlands, 'Bevrijdingsdag' (Liberation Day) is celebrated each year on 5 May, to mark the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II.

My dad and granddad were Seaforths... the Seaforths were involved heavily in the liberation of the Netherlands. I took my daughter to the armoury last remembrance day and that had that famous foto of the guy on the bike with the girls on the back. Im pretty sure he was from the same regiment as my grandad!

The Canadian Army was responsible for liberating much of the Netherlands. The Seaforths were ordered to Amsterdam to take possession from the German occupiers. My mother was a little girl and I wonder if your grandad was among the first regiment who entered the city.
