ARNTZ ON 2 WHEELS
Gerd Arntz Isotype images, Germany/Holland.
The pictograms above are designed by German Gerd Arntz (1900-1988), who was a socially inspired and politically committed artist. He designed around 4000 different pictograms and abstracted illustrations which symbolized industry, demographics, politics and economy, used for visual statistics. The images, made by wood- and linoleum-cuts, were used in combination with stylized maps and diagrams, and so became the first 'infographics'.
